Youth Ministry Update

Director of Youth and Family Ministries: Mark & Tammy Blackburn

FAN or FOLLOWER  During these very different and challenging days, how is your relationship with Jesus Christ,  are you a fan or a follower?  Having just finished that series on Wednesday nights with our Sr. High followed by the movie, "Overcomer", we left the last week that we met with the challenge to come back and share what obstacles are in your life and as you work through those obstacles, is there evidence of being a fan or a follower in you life?  Who would have thought that life would have unfolded as it has since we were together and I am sure there are many different challenges in your lives right now that you never expected.  Text us what some of those obstacles are and we will update this page with your words.  If it is ok for us to include your first name, let us know in the text.  If not, we will just put your words.  You can also do a short video (5 minutes or less) instead if you would like and we will post it here also. It will be a way we can touch base and be together through this quarantined time.  We are missing you all and you are in our prayers.

Always, remember God is in control!

John 16:33 (NIV)

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Here are some things shared by our students and leaders:

"Honestly, there's so so much for me to be thankful for . . .before the coronovirus outreak, I was feeling dry - spirtiually, mentatlly, emotionally . . . like Sahara Desert dry (LOL)  I was tired, overwhelmed, drained, and feeling like I was trying to pour from and empty cup, but with things being cancelled/postponed/put off and then being asked to stay home, it has invited a time of total STILLNESS, and REST, and REJUVINATION, and a REFUELING within my soul and an invitation to be still in His presence and allowing Him to refill my cup.  Oh, how I am so thankful for what this has been and continue to be for me.  And, I pray for so many others, that if even one person comes to know Jesus more because of this, then it has brought good.  While my heart breaks for those who have been negatively impacted by that, it's so important to draw the good from it too because there is never a situation in which God will not bring His goodness and glory into, when we invite it."    A Northside Student

"A struggle for me would definitely be not being able to see my church friends.  To overcome it, we started a church high school group chat to at least be able to talk and stay in touch and encourage each other.  And, I am thankful that I know that God is with me through all of this craziness."  A Northside Student

"I think that this time has shown us how much we take for granted.  Our family, our jobs, our friends, and our church family . . . when it is all stripped away, where do we turn?  Or is God in the center of it through it all?  Has Jesus just been a drawer as we talked about in class - our life being a dresser and Jesus is one drawer as a part of our life  OR is He the dresser that everything else fits into.  I think this time that we are going through will bring that to light.  I am thankful that God is always there, always faithful and always in control. Look to Him to carry you through each and every day.  I am thankful for technology that allows us to encourage one another.  Lift each other up in prayer.  We miss you all and look forward to getting together again face to face."  Tammy
